But Edinburgh is a mad god’s dream
Fitful and dark,
Unseizable in Leith
And wildered by the Forth,
But irresistibly at last
Cleaving to sombre heights
Of passionate imagining
Till stonily,
From soaring battlements,
Earth eyes Eternity
-Hugh MacDiarmid (1892-1978)
This is my favourite poem and the first 4 lines I use to describe Edinburgh and my love for it.Since I live at Leith so it fits well 🙂 furthermore these are the lines that can be found on the wall of Scottish parliament.
